About Synthetic Technologies

Synthetic Technologies is an independent publisher covering online privacy tools and the age-verification laws now spreading across Europe and the United States. We publish in seven languages because these laws land country by country, and a guide written for the UK is of little use to someone in Denmark or Finland.
The site is small and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that every factual claim on it is traceable to a source we checked on the date printed at the top of the page, and that we tell you on the same page when a link earns us money.
What we cover
- VPN services. What they do, what they do not do, and how the main providers actually compare on servers, jurisdiction, audits and price.
- Age-verification laws. The UK Online Safety Act, the 27 US states with active statutes, the EU age-verification app released in April 2026, and the national schemes in Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Finland.
- The privacy trade-off. What a verification system learns about you, what a zero-knowledge scheme does and does not hide, and what the realistic alternatives are.
How we research
Our full method is published on the VPN guide itself, so you can read it next to the recommendations it produced. In short:
- A no-logs claim counts only if a named auditing firm has published a report on it.
- Server counts, country counts and device limits come from the providers' own documentation, re-checked on the date at the top of each page.
- We list the entry price of the longest plan and flag that it is an introductory rate, because it almost always is.
- We do not run a speed-test lab. Where we cite performance figures, we cite whose they are. We will not present someone else's benchmark as our own.
Corrections
Laws and prices in this area change every few weeks. If something here is out of date or simply wrong, tell us and we will fix it and note the change in the update log at the top of the affected page. Write to contact@synthetic-technologies.com.
How the site is funded
Some links to VPN providers are affiliate links. If you subscribe through one, the provider pays us a commission and you pay the same price you would have paid anyway. No provider pays for a ranking, a review or a place in our comparison table, and we include providers we earn nothing from. The full terms are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Editorial independence
We accept no sponsored posts, no paid guest articles and no paid link placements. If that ever changes, it will be stated here and labelled on the page in question.
